The Communication Acoustics and Aural Architecture Research Laboratory, CA³RL, (pronounced as the given name "Carl") is hosted in the School of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Its mission is to explore human perception of sound to further increase the knowledge in this field. CA³RL has a focus on Spatial Hearing, Virtual Acoustic Technology, and related fields.
The Lab of Acoustics Sensing and Information Processing (LASIP) is dedicated to understanding the fundamental theory and development of acoustic signal processing technologies that advance the state of the art of sensing detection methodologies and advanced analysis methodologies in communication acoustics with applications in architectural acoustics and acoustics in general.
The Laboratory and its affiliated scientists and Ph.D. students focus their expertise, activities and global outreach on the conduct of trans-disciplinary research in Technology and materials, Quantitative modeling of complex physical systems and environments, Verification and testing of standards and guidelines and Human factors.
